City University of New York School of Law is situated in Flushing, Queens, New York, right next to Queens College, but is under a separate administrative body. (1) The City University of New York School of Law has been focusing on arming their prospective lawyers with the practical skills needed to serve the public, as indicated by the school motto, "Law in the Service of Human Needs." As such, the City University of New York School of Law has set the example for many other law schools to prioritize practical applications of theories and concepts learned throughout legal education. (2) Programs and Curriculum The CUNY Law School has an integrated curriculum that combines thorough coursework and practical applications of lawyering theories, concepts, and skills learned in class. A three-year legal education in the City University of New York School of Law offers academic programs and clinical programs that aim to prepare students for their future careers as ethical law practitioners. (3) First year law students are required to take seven substantive courses, legal research, and a lawyering seminar per semester, where they are tasked to improve their legal writing skills through practical applications such as simulations and role-playing. The practical training goes on until their second year, and by their third year, the students are given the opportunity to put their skills and legal knowledge to the test through a one or two semester clinical program. (4) In general, City University of New York School of Law is a prominent law school that continues to uphold the tradition of producing lawyers who are well equipped for public service.
