Florida Coastal School of Law is an ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law school located in Jacksonville, Florida. Florida Coastal School of Law was established in 1996 and received full ABA accreditation in 2002. Florida Coastal School of Law is a non-profit school run by the InfiLaw Corporation. (1)
Florida Coastal School of Law offers a J.D. (Juris Doctor) law degree program. Florida Coastal School of Law also has certification programs in specialized branches of law including: environmental law, international comparative law, sports law, family law, and advanced legal research and writing.(2) The school’s Center for Law and Sports offers a comprehensive sports law degree program that enables students to obtain a certificate in sports law.
Florida Coastal School of Law also offers externship and internship programs for its students. Students can enter externship programs in the Office of the Public Defender, United States Attorney’s Office, and the State Attorney’s Office around Florida and the southeast United States. Florida Coastal School of Law is also offering externships in international criminal law in cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the Netherlands. The school’s Consumer Law Clinic enables law students to undergo internships in consumer law. Florida Coastal School of Law can also gain experience in legal assistance through a law clinic program with Jacksonville Legal Services.(3)
Florida Coastal School of Law has achieved a good level of academic success in the past few years. The school won the Orseck Criminal Law Competition for three consecutive years (2005-2007). Florida Coastal School of Law also placed first during the 2005 and 2007 Chicago Bar Association Constitutional Law Competitions. The school’s moot court program has also gained prominence with its performance in academic competitions like the 2007 Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition where it placed among the top ten teams in the world. Florida Coastal School of Law topped the 2005 Florida State Bar Examination with a pass rate of 81.9%. The school also placed fifth in the 2006 Florida State Bar Examination with a 77.6% pass rate behind Florida State University, University of Florida, Florida International University, and Stetson Law School. In 2007, 70.1% of Florida Coastal School of Law graduates passed the state bar examination.(5)
