Looking for a good law school is one of the first and most important steps you need to take if you wish to pursue a career in law. A good law school should bring out your full potential, help you achieve your goals, and meet your expectations in terms of facilities, quality of legal education, and training. If you still haven’t decided which law school to enter, one of the top law schools you can choose and evaluate is the John Marshall Law School.
The John Marshall Law School
The John Marshall Law School was established in 1899, and received accreditation from the American Bar Association in 1951. (1) The John Marshall Law School is located in Chicago, Illinois, and should not be confused with another law school based in Atlanta, Georgia that has the same name. The John Marshall Law School was named after a well-known influential 19th century chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court named John Marshall. (2)
The John Marshall Law School is situated in right in the middle of Chicago’s “The Loop,” the central legal and financial district in the city. Some of the most important legal and government offices near John Marshall Law School are the Dirksen Federal Courthouse, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Daley Center (Cook County Courts), and the Chicago Bar Association. Because of the law school’s proximity to these significant offices, its students have access to a wide range of opportunities for their legal education and career as practicing lawyers. (3)
Programs and Curriculum
Chicago’s John Marshall Law School offers programs for part-time and full time students, and has made both day and night classes available to all students. Unlike most law schools, John Marshall Law School also allows January enrollment. The school’s core curriculum involves arming students with the skills needed for a successful law career, putting emphasis on oral argument, research, and writing. (4)
Aside from the General Practice or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D. degree) program, John Marshall Law School also boasts of six Master of Laws programs, and offers Global Legal Studies programs, which allow lawyers and students from other countries to earn a Master of Laws degree (LL.M. degree).
