NYU Law School

New York is the center of US culture and one of the world’s most influential cities in the world in politics, economics, and entertainment. New York is also the site of some of the best law schools in the US. One of the better law schools in New York is NYU (New York University) Law School. NYU Law School, founded in 1835, was the first law school in New York. (1) Along with Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Stanford, NYU Law School is one of the most prestigious law schools in the US and in the world as well. US News and World Report currently ranks NYU Law School as the 4th best law school in the US and the top law school in New York. (2)

Located in Greenwich Village, NYU Law School offers programs for J.D.(Juris Doctor), LL.M. (Master of Laws), and J.S.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) laws degrees.(3) NYU Law School also offers various fellowships to students enrolled in the LL.M. law degree program. The most prestige of these is the Hauser Global Scholarship which accepts only eight to ten students from around the world. The Hauser Global Scholarship offers full waiver of tuition fees and reduced accommodation costs for its recipients. NYU Law School also offers other scholarships such as the Hugo Grotius scholarships and the Vanderbilt scholarships for International law studies. (4) NYU Law School, in partnership with the Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada, is now offering a joint LL.B. and J.D. degree program which is obtained after four years.

NYU Law School has had its share of distinguished alumni and faculty. The list includes prominent personalities in the worlds of law, politics, business, and entertainment. Three New York city mayors were NYU Law School graduates, namely: Fiorello La Guardia, Ed Koch, and Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani became well-known for the courage and poise he showed in handling the 9/11 terrorist attacks which happened during his tenure as New York City mayor. US senators Lamar Alexander, Rudy Boschowitz, and Jacob Javits were graduates of NYU Law School as well as Nobel Peace Prize laureates Elihu Root and Mohammed ElBaradei. Other famous NYU Law School alumni are Howard Cosell, famous US sportscaster, and John F. Kennedy Jr. (5)
