Indiana University's Law Duo

The Indiana University School of Law actually has two campuses: one in Indianapolis and the other in Bloomington. (1) Both cities are in the state of Indiana, the United States. To distinguish one from the other, people called the Indiana University's Indianapolis law school the Indy or IU Law and the Bloomington law school the Indiana Law. (2) (3)

The Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis

The Indianapolis campus of the Indiana University School of Law was the former DePauw University School of Law in the 1890's. (4) It was then located at Greencastle, also in Indiana. It just moved to its current location in the 1930s. (4) In another account, it was mentioned that Indy Law was actually the Indiana Law School way back 1894. (3) Then, in 1936, it merged with the Indianapolis College of Law and the American Central Law School, which had earlier merged in 1914 and was then named the Benjamin Harrison Law School. The merger brought forth a larger and more intensive Indiana Law School, which began giving out day and night classes. (3)

Come 1944, the Indiana Law School, right after conniving with the Indiana University, became the Indianapolis University School of Law's Indianapolis Division, which was then located in the Maenerchor Landmark in Indianapolis. (3) It was only six or seven years ago when it moved to its current location at West New York Street, Indianapolis, at the Lawrence W. Inlow Hall.

Indy Law, or IU Law, is top 85 in the 100 best performing law schools in the United States according to the U. S. News and World Report 2008 forecast. (4) Its programs in health law is also hailed as the 8th best in the country in the same report. (4)

The Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington

The Indiana University School of Law's Bloomington campus is actually IU's first law school. Indiana Law was conceived in 1842, which makes it more than 160 years old, older than most law schools in the United States. (1) (2) Indiana Law's experience, which has already amassed more than a century, also proved that it is one law school that's worthy of national and international regard when it the U. S. News and World Report heralded it as the 36th best performing law school in the country. (1) Furthermore, it was reported that out of the more than 2,000 prospects that apply in Indiana Law every application period, only 200 would manage to go past enrolment. (2) Its Law Library, which houses more than 700,000 volumes and was declared the 20th largest in the country, was named the United States' Law Library of Choice in 2004. (2)
