Thurgood Marshall School of Law was established because of the lawsuit filed by Heman Sweatt, who was refused admission to the University of Texas School of Law just because he was black. The legislature then passed a Senate Bill that established a university called Texas State University for Negroes, which is now called as Texas Southern University. (1)
Thurgood Marshall School of Law is the law school of Texas Southern University. It seeks out students from different backgrounds and aims to help them succeed in the legal field. The choosing of candidates is done by assessing the students' intellectual ability as based from their undergraduate GPAs and LSAT scores. However, these are not the only basis for admission. Thurgood Marshall School of Law also takes into account the student's prior community service, background, graduate study in a different field, extracurricular endeavors, work experience, and leadership capabilities.
