University Pittsburgh School Law

Though University Pittsburgh School Law, also widely known as Pitt Law, has been around for over a century, its mission has never faltered ever since its first day of existence. In fact, from 1895, when it was formally founded, up to this date, Pitt Law has produced several luminaries in the fields of governance and public service. Take for example former US Senators David A. Reed and James H. Duff and the current Senator Orrin Hatch. Aside from them, some US Representatives were also trained in Pitt Law such as Harmar D. Denny, Jr., James A. Wright, Tom Feeney, and Melissa Hart. (1)

The Mission

It is the noble aim of University Pittsburgh School Law to prepare and produce top-notch lawyers who will comply with the demands of the society, assume responsibilities, and perform legal duties with a notable level of professionalism, skills, and intellect. University of Pittsburgh School Law, therefore structured a diverse learning community where students and faculty members would both work together with a sense of respect, fairness, and professionalism. (2) Essentially, conforming to and undertaking this mission with great integrity is a contributing factor to University Pittsburgh School Law faculty's being No. 21 nationwide.

Courses Offered

The University Pittsburgh School Law offers joint degree programs with other schools such as JD/MPA-Law and Urban and Public Administration (GSPIA), JD/MID-Law and International Development (GSPIA), JD/MPH-Law and Public Health (GSPH), JD/MPIA-Law and International Affairs (GSPIA), and JD/MA-Law and Bioethics (GSPH). These are, of course, only additional programs since the University Pittsburgh School Law has four primary courses: Juris Doctor (J.D), Master of Studies in Law (MSL), Master of Laws (LLM), and Doctor of Judicial Science (J.S.D). Employment After Law School

Not only is University Pittsburgh School Law interested in the lives of the students during their academic years, it is also very much involved in the students' after-graduation lives; therefore, it makes sure that their lives as lawyers are as fulfilled as the ones they once had in the law school. As a matter of fact, University of Pittsburgh Law School has career services, which equip and prepare the students through workshops, counseling, and recruitment programs to be effective, aggressive, and competent in their future job searches.
